Marvin Neil Simon (Neil Simon)
Born on July 4, 1927 in The Bronx, New York, New York to Mamie and Irving Simon. He began writing at a young age. In his teens, Simon and Danny, his brother, wrote and sold materials to comedians and radio shows. Danny always encouraged him to do so. Simon took his advice and began to write after getting out of the Navy. He started to write plays in 1960. In his plays, readers often see the personal influence in his writing. Many settings partake in New York, where Simon grew up. Lost in Yonkers reflects his time as a child. His father worked as a garment salesmen and had to eave his wife to work to support Neil and brother Danny just as Eddie left his children Arthur and Jay. The first play Simon wrote had the title Come Blow Your Horn. He received many awards such as a Tony Award for The Odd Couple.
